My Reverse Bucket List
I recently stumbled across this thing called a “reverse bucket list” and as someone who is obsessed with making lists, I immediately had to look into it. Basically, it’s the opposite of a bucket list; it’s a list of everything you’ve accomplished so far. I’ve been really into gratitude and nostalgia recently as my last couple weeks of college seem to be flying by. I am trying really hard to enjoy the present and all my experiences (the good and the bad). So much has happened in the past three years that I have to look back on with a sense of pride and reminiscence.
Making a reverse bucket list is a good exercise for anyone. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride to see that we have done things of worth to us. Not only that but exercises in gratitude have been shown to increase mental health. People who are routinely grateful sleep better, have stronger immune systems and express more kindness and compassion. If those aren’t reasons to start practicing gratitude, I don’t know what is. It’s so easy, especially in college, to get caught up in our big goals and aspirations for the future without realizing we’re already doing amazing things right now. I decided to start by making my reverse bucket list for everything I’ve done in college.
- I got into my dream school
- Made dean’s list during a global pandemic
- Went abroad for the first time
- Started this blog and really put myself out there
- Learned what it means to be rejected (both on a personal and professional level)
- Went hiking at Acadia National Park – something that’s been on my bucket list forever
- Improved my relationship with my parents
- Performed my poetry in a reading
- Pushed myself to participate in class and actually did it – this was/is huge for me
And finally…
10. Graduated in 3 years with a major, minor, concentration, and 2 internships! As of May :))
What’s on your reverse bucket list?
