Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens: A Guide to Local PA Travel
If you’re searching for your next local PA travel destination, Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens is a must see. I recently discovered the nature reserve in my quest to find all the off the beaten path places in Pennsylvania.
This botanical garden is located in Devon, PA and is open seven days a week with no admission fee (it’s supported by donations!). It is the perfect nature break in a pretty built up area. The arboretum also has a cute garden shop and education center, which is a LEED Gold Certified building.
Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens is 48 acres, with 1.2 miles of trails. The trails are made up of the paved main trail with a bunch of smaller paths to explore. There is also a little pond at the far end of the property. Heads up: the trails are downhill toward the pond and uphill on the way back.
The parking lot is pretty small. It is worth trying to hit this spot during an off hour. I would highly recommend this woodland walk in autumn. I also really appreciated the arboretum’s attention to native plants (see the Doll’s Eyes plant in the gallery above).
We often overlook the idea of exploring our own communities. Learning to appreciate the surroundings we’re in and discovering (or rediscovering) our local attractions is a gift we should not take for granted. Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens is a local PA travel gem for anyone in the area.
