5 Things Every Solo Traveler Needs
When traveling alone packing becomes Priority #1 because if you forget it, there’s no one to fall back on. You could Google the basic travel essentials until the end of time so here are five “off the beaten path” items every solo traveler needs.
Tripod – for pictures to show everyone when you get home. Depending on how much space you have and where you’re traveling, consider bringing a tripod for your phone, camera or both. I prefer bringing my phone tripod because they’re more compact and the self-timer photos on my phone are easier to navigate.
A lot of audiobooks, podcasts, and ~curated~ playlists – cause you’re going to be spending a lot of time with yourself as company. This is especially needed if you’re road tripping or taking a long flight. Also consider bringing along a couple of physical books to save on your phone battery.
Someone on speed dial – When traveling alone it is helpful to have someone back home you know will always pick up your calls. Whether you call for safety or hearing a familiar voice, keeping family/friends up to date on where you are in your travels is a must.
Clothes you can easily mix and match – it’s important to be able to layer no matter where you’re going. You never know when you might need a heavier layer. If you’re traveling for an extended period of time, it pays to save space by packing clothes that can be assembled into a bunch of different outfits.
Item Finder – Losing track of your wallet or laptop is anyone’s worst nightmare while traveling. Try using an item finder like Tile or Chipolo to make sure this issue isn’t one you have to worry about.
Honorable Mention – This one comes from the sentimental side of me; have a way to record your travels such as a bullet journal, Pinterest board, vlog/blog, or posting to your social media. Keep track of hostels/hotels you stay in, places you go, and people you meet. This ensures that when you look back years from now, you’ll still remember every little detail :))
